Damn Prop. 8!

Here at Objectable Content, we were sad and angry to read the news this morning, but not entirely suprised.

To break it down: this blog acknowledges only ONE authority's right to determine the validity of a marriage, id est the Office of the Pope, as established by Jesus, the Christ, the only-begotten son of God, who suffered, died and was buried, rose again on the third day in fulfillment of the scriptures, ascended into heaven, and will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, amen.

This same Christ Jesus also famously taught, "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's." (Matthew, 22:21).

His disciples Peter (the first Pope) and John told their government, "Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye." (Acts, 4:19). Similarly, later (this is Peter also): "We ought to obey God rather than men." (Acts 5:29).

For grins, here's the US Constitution: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; blah, blah, blah."

So what does all this mean? I'll tell you:

The State has NO BUSINESS making laws regarding observance of religion, ESPECIALLY THE SACRAMENTS! That means absolutely no laws regarding Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Ordination, Reconciliation, Extreme Unction, or MATRIMONY.

These things are God's territory. They are for God to determine via his mouthpiece, the Church. This is the "free exercise" thing they're talking about in the Constitution.

If the Vatican reversed its theologically untenable position on homosexuality, and ordered priests to begin performing gay marriages, guess what: those marriages should be considered valid. State of California be damned. The authority of the Vatican trumps that of the State.

I am sick of hearing Protestants defend Prop. 8 by saying they want to "preserve the sanctity of marriage." Hate to break it to you guys, but if you really care about "sanctity" in your marriage, the Pope's got the monopoly on that. His is the only church actually established by Christ during Christ's natural lifetime. You cannot restore SANCTITY to something through SECULAR authority!

You and I both know Protestants would FREAK OUT if the State passed a law saying "Only Catholic marriages will be considered legitimate." As they should freak out, as everybody should be freaking out right now. As people were right to freak out when the government threatened to outlaw the use of wine in the Eucharistic celebration, during Prohibition.

Catholics and non-Catholics alike, can't we all agree that the government should just stay the heck out of religion?

If you're at least sensible, dear reader, I hope you agree that the dangers of living in a fascist theocracy far outweigh the temptations to codify our religious tenets (whatever they may be) into law.

Explaining the Title

So why call this new blog "OBJECTABLE CONTENT"?

I hate the word content. It has become so overused that it now has even less meaning than it did before, when it was already worthless because of how completely non-descriptive it is. Every time I hear it, it makes me want to puke. I see it as a step down, even, from information. When I hear the word "content," I hear: filler, bombast, stuffing, fluff... bullshit. That’s what content really means -- bullshit.

As far as objectable goes, I don’t think it’s actually a word. But it seems like a word, and I hope it’s exactly the kind of word idiots will apply to my content.
